I thought I would share a few funny photo’s my wonderful second shooter (Mandy) took of me at a recent wedding in Bath. I absolutely love having a second person there with me to shoot as they get to capture a different look and I really feel contented to know we are getting lots a great shots for the Bride and Groom! And we get to have great fun and take photo’s like these… thanks Mandy!!

The first one make me laugh as I always call myself the spare token bridesmaid at a wedding as I always end up helping either stick a nail back on, tighten a dress or put a buttonhole on correctly! And here I am running off after the bride getting them ready for a confetti shot.

I always moan about my wrinkles in my face…. now maybe if I didn’t screw my face up quite so much I would have a more ironed out look! – Note to self stop screwing my face up or I will look 60 by the age of 31! I also like to multitask too… oh yes I am gripping a bouquet here in-between my legs whilst taking pictures see boys it’s not hard to multitask!!

What a beautiful day it was on the 24th March… a crisp cool morning just perfect as the bride and groom wanted it to be. It was an early start with the ceremony at 8.30am but it was literally perfect the baths were steaming just so romantically. Having spent months planning her big day Natalie was so ready for this moment and appeared to be so cool and calm even if she wasn’t, she looked sensational and relaxed. Nicholas was eagerly awaiting on the other side of the baths to see his beautiful wife to be with his best man and as the music started their dream wedding began. Wearing a Mori Lee dress, Natalie effortlessly floated around the corner to catch a glimpse of Nicholas their eyes met and they fell in love all over again so proud of how gorgeous each other looked. This moment is always the one you will never forget!

The Roman Baths is just the perfect venue the romance and the history and the stunning steaming water. Natalie being ever so talented made her own wedding cake I am so impressed by people’s talents I love it when I meet other arty people who share a love for making things themselves.

Natalie and Nicholas are such a happy smiley couple who never stopped grinning all day long, their love for each other so strong and the respect they hold for each others heart. I feel blessed to have been such a big part of their day thanks for making my job so easy. Hope you had an amazing honeymoon!

I can’t believe I am in my 30’s… where did my 20’s go?? I mean I know time flies when you are having fun but seriously 30 that sounds soooo much older!!

So shall we have a little review of my 20’s…….

Aged 20 – Was running Half Marathons and Triathlons and my fitness was the love in my life

Aged 21 – Was managing the Holland and Barratt shop in Derby and was awarded Manager of the year! Was the “Don” of selling vitamins…

Aged 22  – Met Al my future husband in 2004 at the gym surprise surprise. Fell in love and moved in… poor guy he had no choice I was going to be a big part of his life and he had to accept it. Kappeeeesh!

Aged 24 – We bought our first house together in 2006 and started the big job of ripping it back to the bones and making it ours….

Aged 25 – Bought our first little doggie Molly but we sadly had to have her put down only 5 days after we bought her as she had a huge problem with her heart. We were so sad and it broke our hearts but it brought us closer and made us feel like we could get through anything.

Aged 26 – Got Engaged on holiday it Fuerteventura and started planning our big day! Also we bought Holly Dog our feisty little Jack Russell. She is so full of beans and kept us busy every day since. Started 2nd Shooting for Jade Alana Photography… totally go the bug and knew I had to become a great photographer, so the training begun.

Aged 27 – Became an Auntie for the first time my brother had a little baby boy called James he is such a little dude and I love him dearly.

Aged 28 – GOT MARRIED in the August was so far the best day of my life saying the vows to someone and hearing them back and knowing they are so strongly felt in our church was immense and then the amazing party afterwards… gosh I love to dance and there was no getting me off the dance floor that night!! Also started my own business and it has gone from strength to strength, thanks to the wonderful support of my family and friends and the amazing word of mouth from all my clients and not to forget all the training from Jade!

Aged 29 – Launched my website and booked my first 10 weddings. Holly had a leg operation and had coped well… although still ongoing physio and hydrotherapy to get it fully better.

Aged 30 – Had the best 30th party with all my wonderful friend and family. Again another night where I didn’t get off the dance floor!

And here are the fun photo’s we took before the party started!

And this last photo slightly freaked me out handing my very expensive camera over to my Dad who had had quite a few gins… this is my happy scared face!

I met Leckie last year when I was lucky enough to photographer her wedding in July as second shooter for Jade Alana. Since that day a lot has happened Pockettypwriter had gone from strength to strength … this is Leckie’s stationary company and oh yes she has a honeymoon baby on the way! Due in April Leckie and John are thrilled to be expecting their first little baby… and for now the secret is safe with the little one as to if it’s a boy or girl!! I cant wait to find out and meet him/her.

I am sure you can all agree too that Leckie just looks so wonderfully glamorous with such a neat tidy bump! I also took a few snaps of the baby cards that Pockettypwriter sells they are so cute and can be bought in boutique shops in the Derbyshire area, other cards are available on Not on The Hight Street

A couple of weeks ago I was asked by Jane the manager from Jarah Hair and Day Spa if I wanted to do the photography for her fashion shoot for her Spring Summer Collection. I was thrilled because I just love fashion and I 100% trust Jane as a hairdresser to be able to make some fantatic creations as Jane was my hair dresser for my wedding. She like me is a total perfectionist so I love to work with her. The lovely make up artist was Emma Grant from Make up by Emar she is so talented and the designs and styles that she was creating were also amazing! We had four gorgeous models who were just wonderful and very talented girls.

Here are a few images from the shoot!

French Macaroons

I have seen these at a few weddings that I have been to and thought mmmmm would anyone notice I just ate one. You see I am so naughty when it come to cake and chocolates and anything that has sugar in its ingredients. Of course the professional me tells the naughty sugar addicted me NOT to touch but I can’t help it “I WANT ONE”!! So a few weeks ago I was photographing a bridal shoot (a fake bride and groom) and they had these wonderful French Macaroons and they are divine they were made by Cameo Cupcakes and as we were all packing up I was allowed to have one…. ok more than one I had three. It made me wonder could I make these little babies just so I can eat them? And the answer is yes! I found the recipe on http://www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/multicoloured-macaroons and they are so easy to make. Luckily for the sake of my bum getting bigger I was able to distribute them as it was my Grandpa’s birthday party and I was calling in to see my grandma too. Because they are so pretty them make great gifts!

So the morale of the story if I am photographing your wedding this year feed me cake and I will be the happiest bunny all day long and you night even get me to stay a little longer!

Here is the recipe to make you look like you are a real little Delia!

Ingredients

  1. 175g icing sugar
  2. 125g ground almonds
  3. 3 large free-range egg whites
  4. 75g caster sugar

For the filling

  1. 150g butter, softened
  2. 175g icing sugar

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 160°C/fan140°C/gas 3. Whizz the icing sugar and ground almonds in a food processor to a very fine mixture.

2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites with a pinch of salt to soft peaks, then gradually whisk in the caster sugar until thick and glossy. (At this point you can stir in flavour extract, such as peppermint or lemon, and corresponding colouring such as blue or yellow, to your meringue mixture) Or divide the meringue among different bowls if you want to make more than one colour.)

3. Fold half the almond and icing sugar mixture into the meringue and mix well. Add the remaining half, making sure you use a spatula to cut and fold the mixture until it is shiny and has a thick, ribbon-like consistency as it falls from the spatula. Spoon into a piping bag fitted with a 1cm plain nozzle.

4. Line 2 baking sheets with baking paper. Pipe small rounds of the macaroon mixture, about 3cm across, onto the baking sheets. Give the baking sheets a sharp tap on the work surface to ensure a good ‘foot’. Leave to stand at room temperature for 10-15 minutes to form a slight skin. This is important – you should be able to touch them lightly without any mixture sticking to your finger. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool.

5. Meanwhile, make the filling. In a bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy, then beat in the icing sugar. (You can now add flavouring or nuts, and colour) Use to sandwich pairs of macaroons together.

I have known Kate since high school we used to be sport mad always playing netball and hockey! Now Kate still does play netball and is a super duper fit PE Teacher, me however I am a sofa queen… oh how things change as we get older!

Kate and Neil are university sweethearts getting together at a big party no one ever thought that they would still be going strong many years later. They got married nearly two years ago and along came little Emily who is now 9 months.

These two are the perfect match both teach high school children, both love sports, both adore each other, they finish each other’s sentence and constantly smile. So with all this in mind Emily knows she is loved more than anything else in the world, she will get the best start in life preparing her for school in her learning and smile is already there she is such a happy little girl.

It was amazing to see Kate after all these years and chat about the last 14 years… OMG that just makes us sound really old. The nice thing about meeting old good friends is that nothing has really changed about them they are still the same person at heart. The only thing that has changed is the people we have met and the relationships we are in and the families we have grown. But it did make me still feel 16 again and that I like that feeling a lot!!

Ready… Ready steady…….. Look at me no hands!!

You see this thumb?? ‘Dis is what my parents are wrapped around!! Kapish!!
